#1 Books and Educational Theories
Things Needed When Teaching A Cappella!!
It is music that can be taught well only when a teacher has experience with a cappella, knows how to instruct music, and possesses a warm heart.
In other words, if there is something through which one can learn ‘a cappella experience,’ ‘music (singing) teaching methods,’ and ‘a warm heart,’ it means that one’s ability to teach a cappella can improve.
This concept is the core trunk of the a cappella instructor training course, and the upcoming series of articles will continue in this same context.
Since the purpose for readers of this post is to discuss theories and instructional materials, I will share tips categorized into these three branches.
1. Theories and Textbooks for A Cappella Experience
Strictly speaking, there is not much in the way of theory specifically for gaining a cappella experience. However, experience in choir, vocal ensemble, or musical theatre ensemble is helpful for a cappella experience. In other words, any textbook that can be followed and practiced for choir, small ensemble, vocal ensemble, or musical ensemble will be helpful.
I recommend these books first.
A. ABCs of Vocla Harmony
A book that allows for various two-part and three-part harmony practice!

B. The Heart of Vocal Harmony
A book on methods of vocal harmony expression written by Deke Sharon of the United States.

All four books across these two sets help with vocal practice while simultaneously aiding in reading sheet music well.
In particular, they guide two or three parts to sing together by default, which also helps develop a sense of harmony.
E. Instrument Sounds
To imitate the performance of vocal percussion and bass, which are widely used in contemporary a cappella, looking at instructional materials for playing instruments is also helpful.
2. Music (Singing) Teaching Methods
The most direct and traditional teaching method for instructing a cappella is choral and vocal ensemble pedagogy.
There are so many types of choral pedagogy books, and most of them do not contain drastically different contents.
If you have the chance, please look them up.
However, choir is best learned and taught through experience rather than books, and trying conducting yourself is the best approach.^^;;
And the extremely useful music teaching and pedagogical methods are the Kodály Method, Orff Schulwerk, and Gordon Music Learning Theory.
To call these teaching methods, extensive and diverse research has already been conducted, and their frameworks are well established.
The Kodály method is outstandingly effective in teaching pitch, sight-singing, and harmony.
The Orff method is helpful for teaching rhythm, harmony, and instrumental sound imitation.
The Gordon method helps establish step-by-step teaching strategies for students and instruct harmony.
If you search for these, you will find numerous books and research papers.
A. Kodály Music Education
It comprehensively covers a wide range of content.
B. Orff Points
Helpful for understanding Orff simply.
Besides these, make sure to search for various research papers as well^^
3. A Warm Heart
Teaching a cappella requires leading children to create music solely with their voices, without any instruments.
Even an instrumental ensemble where instruments are blown or struck requires strenuous effort uniting body and mind; how embarrassing must it feel to bring out that raw self using only one's voice?
It is music that demands great courage and strength of heart.
At this time, if you can understand the children well and continuously encourage them, it will be of great help in teaching them a cappella.
Let us look into studies that help teachers approach their students with a good heart and attitude.
The scope of this is truly very broad.
Looking back quietly at myself,
I was influenced by books and studies on writing education, cooperative learning, the Enneagram, Teacher Effectiveness Training (T.E.T.), and more.
Beyond these, there are various fields of study that help teachers connect with students, such as Positive Discipline in the Classroom, 1-2-3 Magic, Heart Leadership, and Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

마. 악기소리
현대 아카펠라에 많이 쓰이는 보컬퍼커션과 베이스의 연주 모방을 위해서
악기 연주를 위한 교재를 보는것도 도움이 됩니다.
2. 음악(가창) 지도법
아카펠라 지도에 가장 직접적인 전통적인 지도방법은
합창과 보컬 앙상블 지도 방법입니다.
합창 지도 책은 워낙 종류가 많고,
대부분 아주 크게 다른 내용을 포함하고 있지는 않습니다.
혹 볼 기회가 있으면 한번 찾아보시길 바랍니다.
하지만 합창은 책보다는 경험으로 익히고 가르치는것도 지휘를 해보는 것이 가장 좋고요.^^;;
그리고 매우 유용한 음악 지도법, 교수법이 바로
코다이 교수법, 오르프 교수법, 고든 교수법입니다.
이 교수법들은 지도법이라 하기에 이미 크고 다양한 연구가 수행되어 체계가 확립되어 있습니다.
코다이 교수법은 음정, 시창, 화음 지도에 탁월한 효과가 있습니다.
오르프 교수법은 리듬 지도, 화음, 악기소리 모방에 도움이 됩니다.
고든 교수법은 학생들을 위한 단계별 지도 전략을 수립하고 화음을 지도하는데 도움이 됩니다.

아카펠라 지도는 악기도 없이 목소리만으로 아이들이 음악을 만들게 해야 합니다.
악기를 불거나 두드리는 합주도 몸과 마음을 합쳐서 애써야 하는 음악인데
목소리만으로 그 날것을 그대로 꺼내는 작업이 얼마나 부끄러운 일일까요.
큰 용기와 마음의 힘이 필요한 음악입니다.
이때 아이들을 잘 이해하고, 계속 격려할 수 있다면
아이들에게 아카펠라를 가르치는데 큰 도움이 될것입니다.
교사가 좋은 마음과 태도를 가지고 교육대상을 만날 수 있게 도움이 되는 공부를 살펴봅니다.
