The second theme of 'Handol Tarae Ibroman,' an album reinterpreting the songs of Handol in a cappella, is 'Yearning.' If the first theme 'Gazing,' released last April, serenely sang of hope, the second theme 'Yearning' sings of a yearning so poignant that a corner of the heart aches. As it grieves for and sometimes resents lost dreams, ideals, and love in the rough world and harsh reality, it makes me, too, realize anew many precious things I had forgotten and lived without.
The first track 'Thirst' brings to mind the emptiness and loneliness felt when suddenly looking back amidst the reality of living busy lives. Unlike the original song with its intense feel, the harmony quietly blending with the calmly sung melody brings out the gloominess and loneliness even better. The second track 'Fog Dream' sings a pretty melody bringing out its beauty even more through the blending of sound and sound that only a cappella can express. The third track 'Kareyski Salad' is a song containing the painful story of Koryo-saram (Kareyski) in Russia and Central Asia, and our people who were inevitably forcibly taken to a strange foreign land. As it is a painful history, this song, which somehow wells up tears just with the song itself, weaves and arranges 'Arirang' together to further encapsulate the 'han' of our people.
The artist 'Byeor-ui-byeol' who sang 'Yearning' is an a cappella group composed of elementary school teachers and a speech therapist in the Gangwon region, and singer-songwriters who create and sing their own stories as songs. Listening to their songs, the deep heart for children is completely conveyed, always warming a corner of the heart. Although this album is a remake album rather than self-composed songs, as an album sung by teachers who always hold children in their hearts, being released to coincide with Teacher's Day is truly meaningful.
This album was recorded and mixed at Gamjagot Studio, nationally famous for utilizing a closed school in Gangwon-do as a cultural and arts space. For the recording of this album, which sings of yearning for nature and people, work was specifically conducted in the space of a closed school, making efforts to leave behind the most solitary and faint sound.
The cover of this album was also completed by placing children's handwriting over photographs by documentary photographer Noh Ik-sang. Though rough and unrefined, it aimed to fully capture the pure emotion that only children can provide.
The second theme 'Yearning' of 'Handol Tarae Ibroman,' wholly capturing deep yearning and sorrow. Through this album, we hope you can look back on precious things and receive the comfort that, even when times are tough, there is someone grieving together with you.

「한돌타래 이브로만」 ‥ 두 번째 ┃ 그리움
한돌의 노래를 아카펠라로 재해석한 앨범, 「한돌타래 이브로만」의 두 번째 주제는 ‘그리움’이다. 지난 4월 발매된 첫 번째 주제 ‘바라봄’이 덤덤하게 희망을 노래했다면, 두 번째 ‘그리움’은 가슴 한켠이 아릿해올 만큼 절절한 그리움을 노래한다. 거친 세상과 힘든 현실 속에서 사라져버린 꿈과 이상, 그리고 사랑을 그리워하며 슬퍼하고 때로는 원망하는 모습에 나 역시 잊고 살던 많은 소중한 것들을 새삼 느끼게 만든다.
첫 번째 수록곡 ‘갈증’은 바쁘게 살아가는 현실 속에서 문득 되돌아보았을 때 느껴지는 공허함과 외로움을 떠올리게 한다. 강렬한 느낌의 원곡과는 달리 차분하게 노래하는 멜로디에 조용히 어우러지는 하모니는 오히려 쓸쓸함과 외로움을 더 잘 살려준다. 두 번째 수록곡 ‘안개꿈’은 아카펠라만이 표현할 수 있는 소리와 소리의 어울림을 통해 예쁜 멜로디를 더욱 아름답게 살려 노래하였다. 세 번째 수록곡 ‘까레이스키 살랏’은 러시아와 중앙아시아 지역의 고려인(까레이스키)들, 강제로 낯선 이국땅으로 끌려갈 수밖에 없었던 그들과 우리 민족의 아픈 이야기를 담은 노래이다. 아픈 역사인 만큼 그냥 노래만으로도 왠지 모르게 울컥하게 만드는 이 곡에 아리랑을 함께 엮어 편곡하여 우리 민족의 한(恨)을 더욱 담아내었다.
‘그리움’을 부른 아티스트 ‘별의별’은 강원 지역의 초등학교 교사들과 언어치료사로 이루어진 아카펠라 그룹으로, 자신들의 이야기를 직접 노래로 만들어 부르는 싱어송라이터들이다. 그들의 노래를 듣다 보면 아이들을 위하는 깊은 마음이 고스란히 전해져 항상 마음 한 구석이 따뜻해져온다. 이번 앨범은 자작곡이 아닌 리메이크 앨범이지만, 늘 가슴 속에 아이들을 품고 사는 선생님들이 부른 앨범인 만큼 스승의 날에 맞추어 발매되는 것이 더욱 뜻깊은 일이 아닐 수 없다.
이 음반은 강원도의 폐교를 문화예술 공간으로 활용하여 전국적으로 유명한 감자꽃 스튜디오에서 녹음 및 믹싱을 진행하였다. 자연과 사람에 대한 그리움을 노래한 이번 음반의 녹음 위해 특별히 폐교라는 공간에서 진행하여 가장 고독하고도 아련한 소리를 남기기 위해 노력하였다.
이번 앨범의 자켓 역시 다큐멘터리 사진작가 노익상씨의 사진에 아이들의 글씨를 얹어 완성하였다. 투박하고 서툴지만 아이들만이 줄 수 있는 순수한 감동을 고스란히 담고자 하였다.
깊은 그리움과 슬픔을 오롯이 담은 「한돌타래 이브로만」의 두 번째 ‘그리움’. 이 앨범을 통해 소중한 것들을 다시 되돌아보며, 힘들더라도 함께 슬퍼하는 누군가가 있다는 위로를 받을 수 있기를 바란다.
