Male 7-Member A Cappella Group ROUL Releases First Full-Length Album
The 7-member male a cappella group ROUL (hereinafter Raoul) releases their first full-length album on October 25. ROUL stands for 'Revolution Of Uppermost Limited,' which translates to 'revolution at the limit.'
Befitting the team name, Raoul is an a cappella group that breaks away from the heavy feel of conventional a cappella groups and pursues fresh music by incorporating light hip-hop rhythms or rap with the sensibility of the younger generation.
Raoul is a group formed in December 2010, consisting of leader Yeon Gyu-hwan (voice percussion and tenor), Han Se-jong (voice percussion and baritone), tenors Kim Sung-yeop and Lee Jae-sang, high tenor Park Sung-woong, baritone Jeon Han-min, and bass Cheon Su-jin. Although it has not been long since their formal group formation, they are a talented group actively performing through radio appearances, various concerts, and events thanks to the fantastic chemistry among the members.
Raoul's first full-length album sings stories about love felt by young lovers, composed of songs imbued with clumsy yet sincere and small, everyday emotions.
The title track of this full-length album, 'Why Alcohol,' is a self-composed song by leader Yeon Gyu-hwan written when Raoul was formed. 'Why Alcohol' is about struggling to excuse words said to a lover under the influence of alcohol. In this album, both a sorrowful version sung by a single vocalist with sweet acoustic guitar accompaniment and an a cappella version with a light shuffle-based hip-hop rhythm are included together, allowing listeners to experience 'Why Alcohol' in different vibes.
Along with the title track 'Why Alcohol,' the tracks included in the album—'Sunshower,' 'Period of Lassitude,' 'Payday,' 'Smart Woman,' and 'Through the Reddened Curtains'—are all original compositions by Raoul containing the candid dating experiences of the seven men, evoking empathy from young lovers.
Meanwhile, Raoul stated that they plan to release new digital tracks early next year and show even more active promotions to the public.
남성 7인조 아카펠라 그룹 ROUL, 첫 정규앨범 발매
남성 7인조 아카펠라 그룹 ROUL(이하 라울)이 10월 25일 첫 번째 정규앨범을 발매한다. 라울은 Revolution Of Uppermost Limited 란 의미로 해석하면 ‘한계점에서의 혁명’이다.
팀 이름에 걸맞게 라울은 기존 아카펠라 그룹의 무거운 느낌을 벗어나, 젊은 세대의 감성으로 가벼운 힙합리듬이나 랩을 담아 신선한 음악을 추구하는 아카펠라 그룹이다.
라울은 2010년 12월에 결성된 그룹으로 리더이자 보이스퍼커션과 테너를 맡고 있는 연규환, 보이스 퍼커션과 바리톤의 한세종, 테너 김성엽과 이재상, 하이테너 박성웅, 바리톤 전한민, 베이스 천수진으로 구성되어 있다. 정식 그룹 결성은 얼마 안됐지만 팀원들의 환상적인 호흡으로 라디오 출연, 각종 공연 및 행사 등 활발하게 활동하고 있는 실력파 그룹이다.
라울의 첫 번째 정규앨범은 젊은 연인들이 느끼는 사랑에 대한 이야기를 노래해, 서툴지만 진솔하고 소소한 감정들이 묻어나는 곡으로 구성되어있다.
이번 정규앨범의 타이틀 곡 ‘웬 술’이란 곡은 라울이 결성되었을 때 만들어진 리더 연규환의 자작곡이다. ‘웬 술’은 애인에게 술김에 한 말을 모면하려고 애쓰는 내용이다. 이번 앨범에는 감미로운 어쿠스틱 기타연주와 보컬 한명이 부른 애절한 버전과 셔플을 기반으로 한 가벼운 힙합리듬의 아카펠라 버전이 함께 수록돼, 서로 다른 느낌의 ‘웬 술’을 만나볼 수 있다.
앨범에 수록된 타이틀 곡 ‘웬 술’을 비롯하여 ‘여우비’, ‘권태기’, ‘월급날’, ‘똑똑한 여자’, ‘붉어진 커튼 새로’ 는 모두 라울의 자작곡이자 일곱 남자의 솔직한 연애 경험담이 담겨진 노래들로 젊은 연인들에게 공감을 일으킨다.
한편 라울은 내년 초, 새로운 디지털 음원을 발표할 예정이며 대중에게 더욱더 활발한 활동을 보여줄 것으로 전했다.
