The 'oppas' of vocal group 'Artificial Satellite', who gained sensational popularity by introducing "a cappella" music—a genre unfamiliar to the domestic music scene at the time—for the first time with 'Could We Call It Love?' as their signature song in 1993, have returned as 'dads'. The group, which also drew attention at the time as an 'ideal son' group composed entirely of enrolled students at Seoul National University, reinterpreted masterpieces of the existing music scene such as 'At the Subway Station in Front of City Hall' and 'The Blue Night of Jeju Island' into a cappella music directed solely by human voices, securing a wide fan base that loved lyrical, pollution-free music transcending generations.
Although it was a group that started as a pure amateur small club in a college society, with musical passion no less than professionals, Artificial Satellite—which released a total of 4 regular albums and 1 carol album following the great success of their 1st album, continuing broadcasting and performance activities while balancing studies and careers until the late 1990s—took a hiatus as its members entered their 30s to focus on their livelihoods. 15 years since then, they have now established themselves respectively as heads of private businesses, university professors, consultants, and employees at leading major conglomerates; and since most members have now become "dads", they have come together in unity once again to directly let their own children hear the songs they want to play for them through the voices of dads. Under this purpose, album production with the concept of 'A Cappella Music Sung by Dad' is currently underway, and as its first included track, the original song "Dad's Time" has been pre-released as a single track.
The first single "Dad's Time" is a song for which Yang Ji-hoon (CEO of Road Music), the only Artificial Satellite member working as a music producer and active in the music industry, directly took charge of lyrics, composition, and producing, and composer Noh Seon-rak of the musical play 'Mirror Princess and Story of Pyeonggang' took charge of arranging; it captures the message regarding the preciousness of time spent together as a family that 'from the child's perspective, what is desired most from dad is time spent with dad rather than pocket money or gifts' through concise lyrics, a comfortable melody, and harmony. Homaging the song 'We're Five' by the famous Swedish a cappella team The Real Group, this song—made with a melody comfortable for families to listen to together and easy for children to sing along with—featured 1st generation members Kim Hyung-chul, Ko Bong-jun, Yang Ji-hoon, and Lee Hyun-woo, and 2nd generation members Baek In-ki and Choi Hyeop in recording; and as a special guest, the world-renowned voice percussionist 'Kaichiro Kitamura', who had built friendship through previous collaborations with Artificial Satellite members, joined them. In addition, creating a version featuring the solo voice of Lee Jo-eun, the eldest daughter of Artificial Satellite member Lee Hyun-woo who participated in the recording, catches the eye as it adds strength to the storytelling of the lyrics where a child tells their dad of their wish.
Artificial Satellite's new track 'Dad's Time', returning in the form of 'dads' after breaking a 15-year hiatus. It is expected to become a song for May, the Family Month, receiving much love and empathy from girl fans of Artificial Satellite at the time who have now become mothers, and from many parents who know the preciousness of time spent together with their children.

1993년 “[사랑이라 부를 수 있을까]를 대표곡으로, 당시 국내가요계에 생소한 장르였던 “아카펠라” 음악을 처음으로 들고나와 선풍적 인기를 모았던 보컬그룹 '인공위성' '오빠'들이 '아빠'가 되어 돌아왔다. 당시 전원 서울대 재학생들만으로 구성된 '엄친아' 그룹으로서 주목을 받기도 한 그룹은 '시청 앞 지하철역에서', '제주도의 푸른 밤' 등 기존가요계의 명곡들을 사람의 목소리만으로 연출된 아카펠라음악으로 재해석하며, 세대를 초월한 서정적인 무공해 음악을 사랑하는 폭넓은 팬 층을 확보한 바 있다.
대학동아리의 순수 아마추어 소모임에서 출발한 그룹이었지만 프로페셔널 못지않은 음악적 열정으로, 1집의 큰 성공 이후 총 4장의정규앨범과 1장의 캐롤 앨범 등을 발표하며 1990년대 말까지 방송과 공연활동들을 학업과 커리어를 병행하며 이어오던 인공위성은 그 멤버들이 30대로 접어들면서 자신의 생업에 집중하기 위해 공백기를 갖는다. 그로부터 15년이 지난 현재 지금은 각각 개인사업체 대표로, 대학 교수로, 컨설턴트로, 유수 대기업 직장인으로서 자리를 잡게 되었는데, 이제는 대부분의 멤버들이 “아빠”가 되었기에, 자신의 아이들에게 들려주고 싶은 노래들을 아빠들의 목소리로 직접 들려주기 위해 다시 의기투합하여 뭉치게 된 것. 이런 취지 하에 현재 [아빠가 들려주는 아카펠라음악]이라는 컨셉의 앨범작업이 진행 중에 있으며, 그 첫 번째 수록곡으로 창작곡인 “아빠의 시간”이란 곡을 싱글 음원으로 선발매하게 되었다.
첫 싱글 “아빠의 시간”은 인공위성 멤버 중 유일하게 뮤직프로듀서로서 일하며 음악계에 몸 담고 있는 양지훈(로드뮤직대표)이 직접 작사작곡, 프로듀싱을 맡고, 음악극 '거울공주와 평강이야기'의 작곡가 노선락 씨가 편곡을 맡은 곡으로, 가족이 함께 하는 시간의 소중함에 대해 '아이의 입장에서 아빠에게 가장 바라는 것은 용돈이나 선물보다 아빠와 함께 보내는 시간' 이라는 메시지를 간결한 노랫말과 편안한 멜로디와 화음으로 담아내었다. 유명한 스웨덴 아카펠라 팀 리얼그룹(Real Group)의 'We're Five'라는 곡을 오마쥬하여 가족이 함께 듣기에 편안하고, 아이들도 따라 부르기 쉬운 멜로디로 만든 이 노래의 녹음에는 1기 멤버인 김형철, 고봉준, 양지훈, 이현우 그리고 2기 멤버인 백인기, 최협이 참여했으며, 특별 게스트로서 이전부터 인공위성 멤버들과의 협연을 통해 친분을 쌓아오던 세계적인 보이스퍼쿠셔니스트 '키타무라 카이치로(Kaichiro Kitamura)’가 함께해주었다. 또한 녹음에 참여한 인공위성 멤버인 이현우의 장녀, 이조은의 목소리를 솔로로 피쳐링한 버전을 만들어, 아이가 아빠에게 자신의 소망을 이야기하는 가사의 스토리텔링에 힘을 실어주고 있는 부분이 눈길을 끈다.
15년의 공백기를 깨고 '아빠'의 모습으로 돌아온 인공위성의 신곡 [아빠의 시간]. 이제는 아기엄마들이 된, 당시 인공위성의 소녀 팬들과 자신의 아이들과 함께 보내는 시간의 소중함을 알고 있는 많은 부모들로부터 많은 사랑과 공감을 받는, 가정의 달 5월의 노래가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
